![]() Tom’s wife took their son Lon with her to Florida, resulting in a semi-estranged relationship between Tom and Lon. Tom credits an unusual encounter with a duck for saving his life. During the Vietnam War, Tom served as a photographer. Tom enlisted in the army to support his wife. Tom and Charlene had a daughter, Audrey, who was given up for adoption, although Audrey reunited with Tom as an adult who was a fan of his work. Tom met his first wife Charlene while studying journalism at Point Park College. Other early work included doing monster makeup for Bill “Chilly Billy” Cardille on Pittsburgh’s local “Chiller Theater” TV show. ![]() Self-consciousness and teasing drove Tom to become an overachiever who did drama in school to receive adulation from peers. “Man of a Thousand Faces” became the catalyst that inspired Tom’s interest in monster makeup.Īt age 14, Tom created a Dracula makeup that got him work performing in a traveling magic show that incorporated classic monsters. Tom’s mother supported his early interest in horror films.
